Why the studio is called Teknik
A new home for the things I build, and the Swedish word it is named after.
Teknik is the small company I’ve set up to publish the things I build: Routes.aero, MealMetric, and whatever comes after them. This site is its home, and this blog is where I’ll write about the work.
The name is Swedish. Teknik means technology, engineering, or technique: the way a thing is done. My surname is Swedish too, and if you read the last three letters of the word, you’ll find me in it.
What I’ll write about
Mostly the unglamorous middle of building software on your own:
- Airline schedule data, and why a route map is only as good as the routes it refuses to draw.
- Great circles, map projections, and the geometry behind the lines on a flight map.
- Porting a web planner to iOS without letting the two disagree about distances.
- Running small products carefully: data you can audit, and privacy you don’t have to read twice.
If that sounds useful, the RSS feed is the best way to follow along.
